LOUIS ROEDERER AWARDED THE ROBERT PARKER GREEN EMBLEM

THE CHAMPAGNE HOUSE IS ONE OF THE VERY FIRST WINERIES IN THE WORLD TO BE AWARDED THIS DISTINCTION

The Robert Parker Green Emblemis given in recognition of the most extraordinary cases of sustainable efforts in the wine industry. This distinction is awarded to wineries that have achieved outstanding commitment to sustainable viticulture after a thorough audit by the experts at Robert Parker Wine Advocate. It distinguishes producers that are committed to the long-term protection of the environment and biodiversity.

In this first global award, only 24 wineries were recognised, including the Louis Roederer Champagne House. The following write-up features on the Robert Parker Wine Advocate website in the section dedicated to the new emblem:
“The quality of wines […] as well as the House’s unparalleled commitment to organic and biodynamic farming, give Roederer a strong claim to status as the region’s leader. This Reims’s reference-point’s style is powerful but unerringly precise […], If the measure of true greatness is the combination of quality and consistency, Roederer easily passes that test, as every cuvée here is worthy of attention.”

For more than 20 years, Louis Roederer has been engaged in a ‘renaissance viticulture’, allowing all the nuances of the Champagne terroir to be fully expressed, through massal selection, gentle pruning, and daily care and practices that respect the living environment. It also uses virtuous practices inspired by the permaculture model, which allow the ecosystem to self-regulate. These include the use of biodynamic composts, allowing the land to lie fallow for long periods, maintaining hedgerows and low stone walls, growing fruit trees and installing beehives.

The family-owned Champagne House headed by Frédéric Rouzaud was also a pioneer in the Champagne region when it embarked upon the organic growing certification process for half of its estate in 2018. As a result, 115 hectares of its historic vineyards have now become eligible for organic growing certification – the grapes of the 2021 harvest issued from these plots will have official “AB” organic certification (the organic certification symbol in France).
